It's somewhat fun and games: Minnesota News Today
With Minnesota's population confined to the comfort of their homes due to the affectionately familiar harshness the state's winter, let's look at some news about the ways people entertain themselves indoors.
You Bet-cha: Minnesota senators are currently pushing bills to legalize sports betting in the state this year, according to CBS News. Democratic-Farmer-Labor Sen. Matt Klein and Republican Sen. Jeremy Miller introduced bills that give each of the 11 federally recognized Native American tribes in Minnesota their own sports gambling licenses, among other distinct details in their legislation.
Feeling puzzled: A woman in Minnesota purchased a new house to accommodate her massive jigsaw puzzles comprised of tens of thousands of pieces, ranging up to 22 feet in length, according to KARE 11. Linda Groskreutz, creator of the Mankato Puzzle Library, collected and assembled puzzles for over 20 years before running out of wall and shelf space to contain her hobby.
Not playing around: A proposed 10% tariff on goods imported from China threatens toy businesses in Minnesota, according to CBS News. Small businesses that rely on toy imports are expected to be impacted due to the nearly 80% of toys sold in the U.S that are manufactured in China.
Community Question: Who do you think will win the Super Bowl and why?
"The Chiefs, because its gonna be a close game and the Chiefs usually win close games."
-Brody Herman, 22, Senior, journalism major, of St Louis, Missouri.
Quote of the day:
"Where better to host a youth hockey tournament than ‘the land of 10,000 rinks,’ where Minnesota youth have embraced the league so passionately."
-Alexandra Tostrud, editorial intern at Mpls.St.Paul Magazine, in her article about the announcement by the Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) of a tournament designed for women of all ages at the National Sports Center's NSC Super Rink in Blaine, Minnesota. The tournament, named the PWHL Breakthrough Cup, is supported by Play Hockey, a tournament organizer for minor hockey associations in North America.
I decided to write on subjects pertaining to indoor games and playing because of the relatable need to stay indoors this past week due to the weather.
The past few weeks have brought a number of news stories with conflicts involved for different groups of people, so I wanted to, at least in essence, cover a more thematically easygoing topic.
