Electronic Education: Minnesota News Today
As just about every facet of daily life has become reliant on technology and electricity in general, let's look at some news regarding the now-inseparable relationship between schooling and technological systems.
School's Out-age: Schools in the North Branch school district closed Thursday after a power outage in the city, which left 807 East Central Energy customers without power, according to KTSP. Other activities such as childhood programs, school-age care programs and community education programs were also cancelled.
Cameras in daycares: A Minnesota Lawmaker has preposed requirements for daycares to have cameras in areas for toddlers and infants, according to KTSP. Rep. Nolan West preposed the idea after multiple allegations of mistreatment and abuse in Minnesota daycares.
Community Question: What are your plans for Valentines Day?
"Nothing... I'm going to be sitting in my apartment doing homework and probably eating ice cream, sadly."
-Amanda Curtis, 21, Junior, early childhood education major, of Kimball, Minnesota
Quote of the day:
"We learned fairness as children. As adults, we should stand up for that value and what it truly means."
-Katie Jones, member of the Minnesota House of Representatives from the 61A district, in a Bluesky post that includes images urging entities to maintain DEI values in their official policies. The images posted by Jones ask for collective action from entities to refuse to act on pressures to drop DEI policies, and lists values regarding equitable treatment, inclusion, diverse representation and accessibility.
I decided to write on subjects pertaining to the relationship between schools and technology because, as a student myself, I have noticed just how often I'm required to use some sort of device or program to approach my assignments.
The concept of technology and how applicable certain elements of it can, or should, be included in daily life becomes especially relevant when considering this dynamic in such a formative environment as the educational system.
