Target to be removed as a sponsor of Twin Cities Pride after scaling back diversity programs
By Zach Lebowitz
Twin Cities Pride has ended their long-standing partnership with Target after the company’s announcements to end support of previous diversity initiatives, as reported by the Star Tribune.
Executive director of Twin Cities Pride, Andi Otto said, “what is more important is that we send the message that companies need to do the right thing,” the newspaper reported.
Diversity initiatives being pulled back by Target include a program established in 2020 to support Black employees, customers, and Black owned businesses, according to reports by MPR. Efforts to hire women, minorities, members of the LGBTQ community and veterans are also being repealed by the Minneapolis-based company, according to CBS.
Target’s move to rescind their diversity, equity and inclusion policies follows President Donald Trump’s stances on ending DEI initiatives on a federal level, MPR reported.
